Cupertino was once covered by orchards and fruit agriculture was the primary economic activity. Today, it is home to the worldwide headquarters of Apple, Inc. and the popular community college De Anza. The college consistently ranks #1 or #2 in the state for the total number of students who annually transfer to University of California and California State campuses. De Anza is one of the largest, single-campus community colleges in the country with a fall enrollment averaging 25,000 students from over 50 different countries.
Soon after the college was opened, housing developments were rapidly constructed with neighborhoods such as Monta Vista, Seven Springs, Garden Gate, and Fairgrove.
The high cost of living in Cupertino is attributed to the high-quality school system and the stability of its housing market. Even during the economic slump, housing has maintained value .
Cupertino is now littered with food of all cultures and classes. Some great restaurants include Alexander’s Steakhouse, Park Place, and Gochi Japanese Fusion.
